I tried to send an email through my Tiscali account. Thunderbird would no connect. I tried deleting the account ad tried to reopen. Thunderbird would not access the TalkTalk server when I tried for an automatic connection and even when I used the correct port settings . How do I fix this?

The ISP is Tiscali.co.uk who are run in the UK by TalkTalk. whenever I try to create a new account the connection to the server times out or fails completely and the server settings are not found. Further when I try a manual connection it is not found on Thunderbird's database even though it is a web mail site

I've had a lineone.net account for over 15 years, which I don't use, but I have just re-entered it into Thunderbird. Lineone were absorbed into tiscali.co.uk - I have in the past used both for ISP and email. My tiscali email addresses were suspended when I cancelled my broadband account, but the lineone.net account dates back to dial-up days.

The only hiccup on this occasion is that it needs the full email address, i.e. including the @ and the part after it.

My settings are:

account50:
INCOMING: account50, , (imap) imap.lineone.net:143, plain, passwordEncrypted
OUTGOING: smtp.lineone.net:587, alwaysSTARTTLS, passwordCleartext, true

Given that Thunderbird has pretty nearly got all of this automatically, I wonder why it has failed for you.

I note that the settings that Thunderbird found for me are consistent with those given here for a tiscali.co.uk email account:
