Firefox 44.0 keeps changing my default Google search choice back to Yahoo. Why? I see this has been happening for years. Surely it is no accident by now.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

maybe check with adwcleaner or some similar because it might be that some stupid adware is interfering with Firefox.

Problem solved. I installed free Malwarebytes program at https://www.malwarebytes.org/mac-download/, and scanned my MacBook Pro. Four (4) adware items were found and removed.
