On startup, Thunderbird will open 5 dialog boxes asking for master password (same number as number of email accounts I have configured). Is this a bug or my system is compromised? This started since one of the recent updates of Thunderbird. It used to work okay before that.

My Thunderbirds have always done this. I use the Startup Master addon to handle it.

According to Thunderbird https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/master-password

Note: The master password only needs to be entered once per Thunderbird session.

And your point is? That bugs exist? or that in your personal instance you are affected by one? Here are a couple of the most common instances from Bugzilla.

My point was "Is this a bug or my system is compromised?" - looks like a bug now - thank you for clarifying.

Mine does the same thing and has been doing it for a long time. I have to enter my master password anywhere from 3-5 times before TB finally logs me on. TB was reinstalled and it also has happening on both Win 7 and Win 10. This happens every time I start TB.

I have 2 email account defined in TB.

No, it isn't Caps lock as that is disabled via a registry entry.

Using the gdata provider add-on like the bug says?

No, don't have that one installed.

Update:

In another test I started TB with addons disabled. Although it did re-prompt me multiple times it was only twice, which is consistent with the number of emails accounts that I have in TB. Still not correct but definitely better.

Once I went back to the addons version I was again back to 4-5 prompts, indicating that one of the addons appears to be exacerbating the problem. I did this test twice with the same results each time.
