How do I get the side scroll feature?

more options

I just updated to El Capitan on my MacBook Pro and installed the lastest Firefox for Mac. I used to have a sliding button on the right edge of the page for scrolling up and down. That button no longer appears. I can scroll with the up and down arrows on the keyboard, but I miss my up-down scrolling button on the screen. How do I get it back?

Chosen solution

The first thing to check is the system level setting for scroll bars:

OS X El Capitan: General preferences https://support.apple.com/kb/PH21910

You can try the "Always" setting for behavior more similar to older (pre-Mavericks) versions of MacOS X.
