Why does my Thunderbird often take a long time to save messages after I've sent them?
Often when sending emails with Thunderbird it can take 30 seconds or more for the program to save the sent email, which means I can't close it down and walk away until it finally saves.
Chosen solution
Simply tun off the saving of the copy in account settings. Gmail will place a copy in their servers when it passes through on the way out. It is probably having both trying to add it at the same time that makes it slow.
If not having a local copy makes you nervous in case gmail has an issue, change the destination to sent items to Local Folders instead of Sent on your gmail account.
