How can I replace the icons with text for back, forward, zoom and where did the refresh button go?

more options

I have not used firefox in a long time. I cannot find the option to not see little cartoon icons in favor of all text on the address bar buttons. I would like the + and - signs to say zoom in and zoom out.. the back button to say back and whatever those other illegible picture icons are to have text on them instead.

Also, I cannot find the refresh button in the customization menu. Where is that little sucker hiding?

Chosen solution

You can look at the Classic Theme Restorer extension to customize the appearance.

  • you can check out the settings of the CTR extension via its "Options/Preferences" button on the "Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions" page.
  • you can find extra toolbar buttons and more toolbar settings in Customize (3-bar Firefox menu button -> Customize)

Note that you can find the Reload button in current Firefox releases as a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location/address bar.

  • Stop button: while the page is loading
  • Reload button: when the page has finished loading
middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab
  • Go button: when you modify the location/address bar content

You broke Classic Theme Restorer, this answer is completely obsolete. The real answer is Firefox has no interest in supporting laptop users, and there will never be the ability to have text instead of icons in the toolbars because all the money is in cell phone monkeys.
