I have not been able to determine which web site might be the source of this script. I just get a frequent message that this script is causing the browser to wait or lockup. It goes away after rebooting my computer.

the script is Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.js:280

I don't use chrome or any other browser except foxfire

Firefox uses the "chrome://" protocol to access its internal files and use chrome in other cases like userChrome.css (no relation with Google Chrome).

This specific script is about managing tabs and getting the currently selected browser.

Are you opening a lot of windows ?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

I have tried several things; none of them work. When I do find the info for chrome global content, I get the message that it is not secure. It slows down firefox and will not be removed or deleted.

I have an almost identical problem w/script: chrome://global/content/customElements.js:532 slowing down Firefox. How to get rid of it?
