I installed Thunderbird on my iMac yesterday and connected to my Gmail IMAP account with no problem. Today it keeps saying it can't connect to a service called Fusemail which I'd forgotten about and last used 15 years ago. I guess I must have used Thunderbird with it.

There was an empty folder in the bowels of my Mac called Fusemail, so I deleted it, but it has made no difference.

Attached are the settings I have and the error message. I now can't find how I set it up yesterday with map/smtp.gmail.com.

Any ideas, in simple terms?

Thanks, CC

The 'imap.gmail.net' server is one I've never heard of. Maybe it's an alias for a fusemail.com mail server. I don't think it has any connection to real Gmail accounts, that use secure connections on imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com.

Thank you so much for that. You are quite right about the .net, and I have no idea how it got there as it must have bene right when I set it up yesterday and it worked.

I've now corrected it to .com, in two places but it still does not work. I don't get the fusemail bettor message but it is not connecting and bottom left of the screen is says nehoc: connecting to imap.gmail.com with an endless progress bar until it times out with no error message, and no mail loading [old or new].

First, make sure you have the latest TB, 68.9. Then, remove the current non-working account from Tools/Account Settings, Account Actions, then File/New/Existing Mail Account, enter your gmail address and password, and continue with the setup wizard - it will enter the correct settings, and upon completion you will be prompted to enter the password in the OAuth browser window.

Thank you again.

I'm not sure if this is the answer, I'll try it if you confirm it, but having let me in when I set it up a couple of days ago I realise that Google had blocked it yesterday [an email I missed at the time as I was trying TB and Apple Mail was closed].

I confirmed it was me trying to log in, but I still seem to be blocked [though I have not subsequently had any blockage emails from Google.

Your connection security should be SSL/TLS. Your password should be oauth2.0 (other authentication methods are deprecated by Google) The Port must be 993 Cookies must be enabled.

I suggest you have a look under troubleshooting information on the help menu and make sure you only have the one account configured. I have a feeling you have added a new account to an ancient profile from decades ago. Thunderbird does not remove them unless you specifically use the profile manager to delete them.
