Saved log in
Recently (on two machines) Firefox has been showing the 'Update Password' pop-up for saved log ins. If I ignore it all is well, but the password in the box is not the one originally saved. If I save it I can see a randomly generated password which is, obviously, invalid for that site. If I have multiple log-ins it gets very confusing as some users will hit save thinking 'that's ok' and others won't. If I disable 'ask to save log-ins' it doesn't populate the ones already saved. Currently my only option is to cancel the 'update' pop-up every time which is annoying and confusing. I've cleared the cache for several sites to no avail. Any thoughts?

I suggest you open the Password Manager and clean out old data.
Type about:preferences#security<enter> in the address bar. Look under Logins,
Note: For Firefox v56+ its; about:preferences#privacy Look under Forms & Passwords +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Turn on Remember Logins. To check the passwords you have listed, press Saved Logins.
Press the Exceptions button and see what's inside.
I forgot to add; That could be the form filler built into Firefox. Click in the field, enter a character or two and STOP ! Using the arrow keys, highlight an unwanted entry. Then press Shift > Delete
Repeat as needed.
Thanks Fred, I've already tried deleting old password data and reinserting, no joy. As to your second suggestion, when you say 'click in the field' which field are you referring to? Is it in an 'about:xxx' option or in the password save pop-up, or another area? Steve PS Firefox v 92 under Ubuntu 18.04 on two different machines
Some websites update/modify the password field before submitting the form for some reason (maybe they want to disrupt storing the password). If Firefox detects that the field is different than saved in the Password Manager when the form is submitted then Firefox offers to update this password. If necessary edit the password in Lockwise and create a login block exception for this origin (protocol and hostname) to prevent Firefox from updating the stored password. You may have to use "Use Saved Login/Password" in the context menu if auto-fill isn't working.
