I use Firefox as my browser and used to be able to go a web site or to a link from an instructor and when I clicked on the link or entered the class I was attending, the Zoom meeting would automatically open. That doesn't work anymore. I have to "join via browser but I don't have the meeting id. Why has this become so difficult? Zoom denies being the problem so now I wonder if it's the browser.

https://app.zoom.us/test

What happens with the above link? I'm able to join via browser and all the test worked. What version of Firefox? What OS?

Another question: if you go to the Applications list on the Preferences/Settings page, is zoommtg still listed with the action of "Use Zoom meetings" (to open the link it in the Zoom app instead of in Firefox)? This article will get you to that part of the page: Manage file types and download actions in Firefox.

Does it work if you manually copy and paste the link into the address bar?

Does it still happen in Troubleshoot Mode?

This issue started happening for me in the last few weeks. I click a Zoom link from my calendar, then a tab opens briefly, then the tab closes and Zoom doesn't open. I'm also not prompted to launch the Zoom app, or choose a different app. I'm on Mac with Firefox 128.0.3 (64-bit). I tried several things that didn't fix the issue: 1. Troubleshoot mode 2. Clearing all cookies and cache 3. Removing zoomus and zoommtg from the Applications list in Settings. 4. Changing zoomus and zoommtg to "Always ask" in the Applications list in Settings. 5. Opening the Zoom link within a new container tab.

Interestingly, Zoom links do launch the Zoom app from a Private window in Firefox. I noticed this today. This is why I tried clearing all cookies and cache, but that didn't help. I also tried playing with the settings under Privacy & Security, but nothing seemed to help.

I use Firefox as my primary browser, and I use Zoom multiple times a day for work. This issue is so annoying I'm considering switching to a different browser. Zoom links open as expected in Chrome and Safari on my machine.

I finally figured it out after several hours. I have the extension Zoom Tab Close (by cshields). This extension was closing the Zoom tab before I could select which application to open. It's unclear if this is because Zoom made a change on their side, because I didn't have this issue for months (maybe a few years). Anyway, disabling Zoom Tab Close fixes the issue.

The add-on doesn't seem to have changed for 4 years, so either it's a change to the page, or something the extension uses in Firefox has changed.

1. Troubleshoot mode

That should have worked around an extension issue. ??

Interestingly, Zoom links do launch the Zoom app from a Private window in Firefox.

Since extensions need explicit permission to run in private windows, this is one of the factors to consider along with cached files and cookies.

How about recording your desktop and posting online for all to see the issue. https://getsharex.com/ or your tool of choice.
