Why do certain websites look wrong with jumbled text and no pictures?

For example, the wall street journal and the firefox website both look wrong. And I've looked through support forums and I've tried everything - updating plugins, playing with options, etc. IE8 works fine and many other sites using Firefox look fine, but something is not set up correctly so that certain websites just load incorrectly. Thanks.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
