If I have for example 3 tabs open and want to close one that I don't want anymore because I still want to work on the other 2 it will only give me the choice of closing all or cancelling. How do I just close the one I don't want but leaving open the 2 I do want?

How are you closing the tab?

You can close a tab with a middle click on that tab if you do not see a close button on that tab or use the right-click context menu.
If you use the close X on the title bar then you close a window.
