I downloaded installation setups for both Thunderbird and Firefox, both of them wouldn't install with the same failure. After pressing "Run" in the Security Warning window, a "Run as" window pops up offering to choose running this application either as myself or another user. With whatever choice of a user (I am the owner and the administrator of my computer) and hitting "OK" button, this window disappears and nothing is happening after this. Apparently, the process stops at this point.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.

Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".

Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

As I indicated in the description, I do not have yet Firefox installed on the computer, so there are no Firefox icons and folder in the \Program Files\ area.

I did check in the properties of the "Firefox Setup 17.0.1" that

all options you described are indeed deselected.

But! I tried to right click on the Setup this time and selected

"run as administrator" option. This worked.

I guess something is screwed up with my Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

It's a Gateaway PC.... may be I should blame them....

Anyway, somehow I got going, thanks anyway.
I should also say that I am frustrated with the level of Mozilla

support - there is virtually no support, I was a step away from dropping the Firefox...

Try to disable your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading and installing Firefox work.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
