I had my bookmarks earlier in the day I shutdown my computer. Came back on my computer a couple of hours later and it is all gone. Bookmarks, sites, everything. Is there a way to get them back?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Firefox > Bookmarks > Import/Backup > Restore Restore bookmarks from previous date.
