I am running windows 7 premium on a desktop pc. I have a number of other PC's in the home and this problem does not occur on the others. I have an XP partition on this machine and it does not have the same problem either. I can connect to most websites, but there are certain ones I cannot connect to. I tried using an annonymizer website and that allowed me to connect, but Soundcloud does not allow annonymous use.

this is the errror - The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I have tried turning off my firewall and anti virus, lowered my website security to none, reset and cleared cache and cookies. Frustratingly some of the sites I have searched that may have a solution also don't load.

Chosen solution

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

thanks for your help, it was peerblock, I had no idea it would stop so many sites and forgot it was running. Sorry to waste your time. I did however find quite a lot of crap that needed cleaning up anyhow.
