Not displaying IM messages received while closed?

Hi guys!

I recently set up the IM feature in Thunderbird, and it works great. However... Look, I can't really sum up my thought process, so, uh, here's what happened. 1.I get an e-mail from Facebook: "1 New Message!" 2.I open Thunderbird, click the person that sent it to me, and... 3."Thunderbird doesn't have any previous conversations stored for this contact"

Is there a way to get Thunderbird to refresh the chat log with the server so I can see this message without having to open the Facebook website?

I think your missing the point. IM is a "now" thing. IMs are not stored anywhere to download (at least the protocols don't offer that even is facebook do) so Thunderbird knows nothing of the Facebook message, because it was not logged on when the Now part of the event occurred.
