Somehow a program/plugin/extension named (keeptube) will show up everytime I am on a website that has linked a youtube video. Its a piece of code that takes you to a site that allows you to download youtube videos (http://savemedia.com ). So the website and the button have different names .

Its not very well programmed because it consistantly places itself over the "view on youtube","make fullscreen" and "settings" buttons at the bottom right corner of the video every time I am on such a page.

I need to get rid of it.

Neither "DO NOT" show up in addons/plugins/extensions. Again, neither names "DO NOT" show up in addons/plugins/extensions. (sry I needed to make this clear so I dont get the oft repeated reply to situations like this).

What do I do to find out where its coming from?

thanks for your time, Jerome.

Did you look in the Windows Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs?

Hi again. Actually I did previously look there but I did again on your suggestion because after I updated firefox previously unseen addons/plugins/extensions showed up so I gave the uninstall programs feature another shot.

I followed your link but even though it seemed at first to give precise instruction, its really generic info that applies to {most} any problematic or unwanted software. The illustrations on the page arent specific instruction for keeptube, although you get the impression that it is.

I actually use a different uninstall program from iobits thats works better for me then the windows version because it populates the screen in seconds instead of the sometimes minutes that the windows version does. It does not show up there either.

In searching for a answer I found someone that had the same problem with keeptube and found his own solution when he found that the software had stealthed itself in firefox extensions under another name called "page break". No luck there either. How many names can something like that have and still want to be trusted?

Still looking for an answer, but thanks for your suggestion.

Jerome.

"How many names can something like that have and still want to be trusted?"

That's a facetious question isn't it?

Anything that "tags along" with another program being installated and then hides its' presence from the user, should be considered Malware or PUP [Potentiality Unwanted Program]; and you ask if it expects to be "trusted"? You shouldn't trust it when it does a "surprise" installation!

Garbage like that purposely uses different names to make it harder to locate in the operating system - to thwart easy removal.

A far as that "page break" extension you mentioned, that might be the reason that it can't be found at the Mozilla Add-on website via a search. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=page+break&appver=35.0&platform=windows AMO carefully screens each add-on that is hosted there, for crap exactly like that.

Why not post in one of the forums out there that specialize in Malware detection and removal? http://www.spywarewarrior.com/index.php http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/ http://bleepingcomputer.com

I have no experience with removing "stuff". I haven't picked up anything like that since I started using Firefox back in 2002, and I stopped working on other peoples PC's after a number of "clients" managed to replicate their problems within days after I cleaned up their PC's.The last one I fixed called me back before I even got home from visiting their location the first time, by not heeding my warning about installing a "Free screensaver" program that In suspected had caused their problem the first time.

Thanks - I guess.

You would be suprised to find out that if you go to addons:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/keeptube/

Firefox seems to support this software. This is not the problem, however. The problem is that I cant find out how to get rid of it. Btw, I didnt install it because of the seemingly recommendation by firefox. It came from somewhere else.

I didnt properly reply to your answer so that maybe why it doesnt show up there. I may go back to the initial post and copy this communication so others may see it and maybe some one else with the same issue may give an answer.

I am still lookig for a solution. You can be sure that once I find it, I will post it.

Its kinda funny if you think about it. Firefox lets you dl vids nativily. Why would someone want anything else?

Lets see if we can corral this thing.

This like the vast majority of Extensions hosted at addons.mozilla.org are third-party. It does not mean Mozilla (Firefox is browser, Mozilla is company) actually supports them.

Also the only extension this author has has only been preliminarily reviewed by Mozilla https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/download-youtube-videos-hd-/
