Firefox latest version 38.0.1 is crashing system, when I am clicking on customize from top-right menu. I don't know whats the problem, I am getting more number of crashes with every update with firefox versions, as this is crashing system, another problem is FF hangs system and goes in "not responding" for never recovering back, but I was dealing with those, now you have the biggest of system crashing thing.

Do you think, it is my system problem or its FF bug in latest version?

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

@the-edmeister I am not getting any FF crash to submit the report, but its crashing my system, so I can't do anything on that and I don't see any crash log in FF as well.

@cor-el Now, as you asked for deleting user.js, preference files and all, don't you think this is something firefox should be handling, since this is not somethings user would know and do deleting files of FF.

Anyways, I have checked profile folder and found I don't have any user.js but I have one prefs.js file, and I made rename on it. But its still crashing my whole system.

I am already using default theme of mozilla, and I don't think any of my extension are making any issue, since this happens when I am just clicking on customize button in FF menu.
