I have two devices, win7 and ubuntu 14.04, both have newest version of mozilla firefox. The win7 has all the bookmarks etc. that I want to sync to the fresh ubuntu. I wanted to manage account to delete other devices if they exist, but the "Unexpected Error" occurs on clicking on "Communication preferences". I believe this is also a hint why my devices won't sync.

The Communication preferences are for any Firefox newsletter that you may have signed up for. Currently there is not an option in that menu to delete other devices, so no harm done. Before deleting other devices, make sure that there is a back up of your profiles as Sync is not a reliable back up of your preferences. Next, in order to remove all other devices from the account you will have to change the password. BUT make sure all of the data has transferred first, because once you change the password, it will no longer sync with the cloud profile. It will merge all of the new devices that are attached.
