moving messages to another folder triggers a command error 12 message and failure to move message
Using Thunderbird to pull messages off of an exchange server, the error "The current operation on inbox did not succeed. The mail server for account username@domainname.edu responded. Command error 12."
This error applies whenever mail is moved from one folder to another (including deletions), but there is no problem with sending or receiving mail.
Additionally, mail that is flagged as junk by the server is moved to the junk folder, but I cannot move any messages there myself.
I applied the fix listed in the archives at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1064915
But setting the default to either true or false has no effect upon the error.
This error started only on Monday, November 16, presumably when IT applied an exchange server patch. Since the University does not support Thunderbird, they don't care to enlighten me about what they did.

I am learning. But it appears that setting is in response to a specific failure of exchange 2013 in a multi exchange environment where mail boxes are actually stored on an exchange 2010 server.
Really you will need to identify exactly what command the error is in response to. To do this please log the IMAP connection using the instructions here https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging
Once you have the log. Please post the relevant part, or email it to me at unicorn dot consulting at gmail dot com. with a link back to this topic.
This morning all is well. If Matt's theory is correct, then the IT at the University must have migrated the mail boxes to a 2013 server without notice to solve the problem.
I am sorry that I cannot log it as the issue is resolved on my end.
Thank you for the response.
