If i want to get the definition of a word say when reading text on a website I can highlight the word and right click and go to search yahoo for word. How am I able to switch yahoo to say google or some other search engine or better yet is their a dictionary i can download for this?

Firefox normally uses your default search engine. If you do not want to change your default search engine, you can use an add-on like the following to display more choices on the right-click context menu:
