why is it that in 47.0 I am prevented from moving the tabs where I want them?
Just started 47.0 for the first time. Previous session had 28 tabs, 17 in top row and 11 in the bottom. I wanted to move the penultimate tab couple places to the left. I did. But when I let go, it jumped where I wanted it, but in the top row. I _cannot_ move any of the tabs from top to bottom row. Whichever tab I move within the bottom row ends up in the top one. Tabs in the top row can be moved right only as far as the last tab in the bottom row. Another improvement is getting rid of the little x tab-closers. It's either Ctrl+W or right-clicking-and-going-through-the-menu thing. Much faster, I guess? Double the number of clicks and provide an opportunity to do reading exercises and miss what one needed to click on. I guess the next step will be to get rid of keyboard shortcuts, as too confusing - after all, what's the point of keyboard on the phone?
Seriously: could someone point me to somewhere where there is some justification for this improvement and information on how to get rid of it? Did not see it in release notes.

Everything happened the same way with all add-ons disabled. I guess I could also try setting a new, empty profile, but I do not think it's worth the time. Thank You, the-edmeister and cor-el, I see I attracted the attention of some of the best, but I consider the issue closed with no solution, just a workaround of a version rollback - not so bad, considering the old one didn't give me any problems with productivity impact.
Good Night!
In the meantime I will mark this message as solving the problem by rolling back to 43.0.4

Rows of tabs? Sounds like you're using an extension to get that feature.
Which extension? If we know that extension, someone here might use it and be able to help you. Is that extension up-to-date?
Have you sought out a support forum that that particular extension? The add-ons download page will show the Support Site for the extension, if that extension does have their own support fora.

Hm. I didn't know that. Out of interest (and there is _no_ sarcasm intended here), I now have 107 tabs open. How would default Firefox present them so that they are useful: all tabs (but not content) fitting in a regular window with at least 10 characters of the tab title visible, so one can navigate without undue delay?

I updated only Firefox. Haven't installed any extensions in months, definitely not now - the only change is Firefox. I believe occasionally on Firefox upgrade I see a warning that some extension is incompatible - haven't seen it this time. Searching I found that I use something called Tab Mix Plus. It was updated to the latest non-development version on June 6th. There was no problem since then until yesterday, when I upgraded Firefox.

Since the problem manifests itself after changing Firefox, I assume it is _that_ change that introduced it, unless _shown_ (and not just told) otherwise.
I see there is some other response, so I'd better wrap it up. Thanks!

- One row that would pop-out the right side of the ecreen.
- TabMix Plus 0.5.0.0 is the latest version,
- Yes, that is possible, but when Firefox is updated the extension developers have to fix whatever may have gotten broken by the update.
Sorry, I don't use TabMix Plus - can;t help with it.

Or wait until another support contributor around here who uses TabMix Plus can weigh-in here.
Not sure what You edited, but since it looks fine now I assume it didn't before You did; sorry and thank You.

Ah, yes, now I remember: one never saw all tabs, sometimes one couldn't tell whether to go left or right, sometimes I opened duplicate tabs because I didn't see they were open already, just invisible. Glad I forgot about it... ;)

# TabMix Plus 0.5.0.0 is the latest version,
Checked, this is what I have, updated 10 days ago with no
ill effects. Since I download and save whatever I install (to be independent of internet connection's, companies and peoples' whims) I rolled back to 4.3.2, for a test - no change. So it is definitely Firefox update, not the extension's

I think I will do both - sooner or later someone "over
there" will notice that 47.0 breaks things, so there is a point to see what is possible to do to revert it to sensible behaviour. And here - well, if something here broke it, someone here should fix it. No, it's not a blame-game, rather a recognition of which group is - or should be - most familiar with the faulty product.
[MOD] Yes, I see what You needed to fix - and I tried. managed to get rid of the scroll-bars, but not the extra vertical space and font changes. That is really strange - definitely Mozilla but not a Firefox issue, so I'll let it rest.

When you lead or indent a line of text that is what creates the horizontal scrollbar when the text is longer that one line, You can see it starting to happen with these two lines in your last posting.

The scrollbar doesn't appear because you hit the carriage return before typing the next line with no indent. Screwy software used for this fora; someone didn't like the 'font change' with a completely indented paragraph which some of us used very frequently. Now that horizontal scrollbar 'action' appears making those wideeee lines hard to read with the so called 'fix'.
We're in the safe territory here, I guess, complaining about a fourth party... ;)
I only started using CR/NL after noticing the horizontal scroll-bar in my
posted message. What is especially "funny" about it is that it _did_ wrap around in the non-resizeable input field provided by (presumably) same software. Of course, the way the message is finally presented is in a _narrower_ non-resizeable field. Changing the font size (Ctrl-plus and minus) changes the field size, too. What the...
Oh, yes, NOW I feel better! ;)}
Thanks again - couple months ago the premier gave me an award for
so-many-years of volunteering, so I know both the rewards and the
frustrations - so I thank You
Disabled TAbMix PLus, restarted Firefox. Created a bunch of tabs, more than a screenful. The full screen shows 16 tabs, there are 10 invisible ones to the right. Let's assign the tabs letters, A to Z and numbers from 01 to 26 are the "slots" they can be dropped in. When I try to move tab Z (originally position 26) to position 24, it ends up in position 10, just under the left "edge", so not visible. As far as I can see, it disappeared. It also, of course, "bumps" all the tabs from J to Y up by one position, that's how I know it did not. This happens regardless of which position (11-25) I am trying to move it to; remember that the screen only shows 16 positions. If I try to move it to positions 1-10, it works as expected. I tried it with two more tabs, M and S; they behave exactly the same.
Having recreated the complete layout, so everything is in the
same order, I now try to move tab G to a position above 10 - no cigar. Needless to say, tab Z, after it ended up in position 10, wouldn't go above it. Except... Except when I drop tabs J-Y on position 10 (or any above it, since they will always end up there), Z keeps being bumped "up". VERY laborious way to move it two positions to the left, requiring preplanning many operations, involving a possibility of frustrating errors. Huge improvement! I think it qualifies for the "new and improved" category, even.
Without a doubt, it has NOTHING to do with TabMix Plus, as I
restarted Firefox with it disabled. Now, that there is a test case they cannot deny, I will be going back to 43.04, my last download. As a matter of fact, I cannot remember agreeing to install 47.0 at all. Which, by the way, is an incredible major version jump: 4 major versions in 6 months? Wow! And here I am, working on CATIA V5, first released in 97-98, V6 wasn't released until about 10 years later. Sheeesh!... Has someone got a smallness complex? Back to CATIA - some of my clients are still on V4. Back to Firefox - this is it, as far as 47 and me. Now, next time, is there a way to prevent a "forced" upgrade?
On a related note: is there any way to close the ticket without
it being solved? I'd like to leave it be for a couple of days, in case someone else has the same problem and is trying to find a solution, but it is effectively "dead". Thanks for Your efforts, but since it is not an extension problem, the only solution is a rollback. I guess that doesn't qualify for a refund, eh? ;)
Did you try to disable all extensions first to see if that makes it work and then possibly only enable the extension that provides the multiple tab rows?
I only disabled the only extension that had anything to do with tabs. I will disable all other extensions, restart and go through the case again. Will need probably 30-45 minutes for it. I doubt _very_ much whether that will make any difference.

And, in the meantime, Firefox on Linux (32bit CentOS 5) crashes after just sitting there, unused, untouched, for about 2-2½ hours (I know I started it around 11pm) - it just did, I saw it disappear from a screen across the room. Lovely, if totally unrelated. No, I never got any money from Microsoft! ;)
