How do I make Thunderbird notifie me on every new email I receive?

Right now I have it setup to play a tone when new email arrives, but this only happens when it first starts up. After that, I receive new emails, but no tone is played. How do I fix this.

you probably have to tuen off the option to allow the server to push new mail when it arrives and rely on the mail being collected on a timed basis.
