Using POP, create subfolder-does not display, check profile and folder is there, deleted .json and panacea, no change what to do?
I've setup Thunderbird using a POP server, everything seems to be working good. I've setup several folders with subfolders for organization of my emails and to address disk space issues. However, sometimes when I try to create a subfolder to one of the folders or subfolder of a folder, it does not appear in the left pane. I check the HD and it shows the folder and the subfolders. Naturally, if I try to create it again it says it already exists. If I delete the HD folders, restart Thunderbird, the subfolders are gone. I try to re-create and get the same result in that the subfolders of a subfolder do not display. I've tried REPAIRING the folders. I've tried deleting the .json files and panacea.dat files and letting them be re-created but this has not solved the problem. I need some suggestions as to what I might do to correct the problem. It is almost as if Thunderbird has a limit to how deep you go with subfolders. Is this possibly true?

In that case, have a look here. If you are really going 6 folders deep (wow...), that could be the culprit allright. You’ll also find an associated bug, and should be able to test by shortening a new subfolder’s name, or do a little math. :)

I trust you when you say it is a POP account, and that you are looking at the proper account in Thunderbird (some people have an account both set up for IMAP and POP, so just mentioning it.) Are you absolutely sure the folder isn’t just collapsed? You should see a small arrow on the left of it in that case.
Another possibility would be that an add-on is causing strange behavior, which you can check by restarting Thunderbird with add-ons disabled. Add-ons include themes, so if you use a different theme, the arrow mentioned above may not be displayed. Switch to the default them to check.
Also, please have a look at this question.
Does any of this help?
This is a POP account. I'm certain I am looking at the correct profile. The folder is not collapsed. There is no arrow next to the folder that I created the subfolder under even though it shows up in the directory on the HD. I looked at the other question and that is not the case.
I disabled all the add-ons and restarted Thunderbird and this did not correct the problem either. The problem can be recreated over and over again. It is like Thunderbird has hit a limit as to the number of subfolders it can have below the root. In this case it is 6 subfolders down.
