I deleted Thunderbird (and the maintenance program) when I gave my laptop to a friend, but when he tries to download Thunderbird, it opens up as my account.

I gave a laptop to a friend. Thunderbird had been installed on the laptop; however, I uninstalled Thunderbird (and the Mozilla maintenance program) before I gave the laptop away. When the new owner tries to download and install Thunderbird and set up an account with his email he is unable to do so because what he gets when he downloads Thunderbird is my old account. We have tried the uninstall and the download several times, and the result is always the same--my old account shows up.

Just to be clear about one point: When I say "my old account" I mean my account settings and my email show up.

I don't see how this would be possible after the program had been uninstalled unless there is some residual information that identifies me after the uninstall.

Finally, I should mention that I have Thunderbird installed on two other computers, and I use the same email address for all of my computers; however, these computers are not networked together--they are all set up independently.

Thanks.

Thunderbird stores your data in your profile. Uninstalling repeatedly keeps you busy for a while but it does get boring getting the same results over and over. Deleting the program does just that. It does not affect the profile. Delete the profile to remove your old data. That is how it is possible. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data
