I accidentally deleted a tab from the tabs page, but when i tried to drag it back to the empty spot from bookmarks, it wouldn't install a tab on the page, but instead opened up the site page. I found that the case with any site. Before, I could always drag a site to the tabs page and it would install a tab. Any way to fix this?

Will returning Firefox to original work for you. This needs to be worked on. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1178275 As seems you have changed the preferences and or your profile so that what you want does not work anymore.

I will escalate this up for someone that can work with you on changing things up,

Does it work if you drag a history or bookmark item from the sidebar to one of the tiles on the about:newtab page?

It is possible that you have been changed to the new design of the about:newtab page if you have received the activity stream extension. You can find this extension under the Features section on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" page when you have received it.

You can check this pref on the about:config page.

  • browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled = faklse

You can reset user set (bold) pref(s) on the about:config page via the right-click context menu to the default value

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

The only thing I did recently which may relate is to delete history, cookies, and temp files. I long delayed doing this because it always causes problems for me. I looked at your links, and so far I am still clueless what exactly to do, but I'll work more on it later. I'm such a computer idiot that it is usually necessary to tell me what to do as if I'm 5 years old. Otherwise I'm liable to make a real mess of it.
