How many email addresses can I put in a mailing list?
I can't see instructions anywhere for a maximum number of email addresses in a mailing list. Is it possible to have more than 56 for contacting people in my sports club? Thank you

Some information on Mailing Lists in Thunderbird. Please read info as there are two ways of using 'Lists'. One method is via the Address Book and this will list each person on a new line, but then you have to ensure the 'Bcc' is used otherwise you will be sendin out each persons personal email address to other recipients. selecting the list name itself via the 'Write' window Contacts Sidebar is much quicker.
Regarding limits:
E-mail addresses There appears to be a limit of approximately 60 addresses when sending messages if you enter each address separately. However, if you use lists (mail distribution lists) for most of the addresses any limit is imposed by whatever SMTP server you use.
You can receive messages sent to multiple addresses in the same mailbox. Any limitations would be due to your e-mail provider.
Most Internet Service Providers will have limits on number of emails you can send in a specific time period. note that one email to 58 recipients will be classed as 58 emails.
Using Mailing Lists and sending as a list name should not be a problem. But make sure every contact in the list does have an email address otherwise it will fail.
If you want to send a more personalised email to each person and keep each email separate then you could sonsider using an addon called 'Mail Merge'. It can merg with a .csv file or an address book, so in this case you would create an 'address book' with specific contacts rather than a 'List'.
Thank you for your help. In the end it was solved. The large mailing list of 58 email addresses was split into 2 halves. These were then sent on the same email and they all went through okay. As you can tell we aren't particularly computer literate but this worked.
