Hi ann.dennison, if you are using the method of dragging to the Bookmarks Toolbar, you can drag from the "identity" area to the left of the address. There is usually an "i-in-a-circle" there, and for secure sites, a green lock. Does that work?

no it does not

Can you grab and drag anything ?

Or bookmark it and then drag it out of Bookmarks to the Bookmark Toolbar.

You can also right click the toolbar and make Folders for like type sites. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/bookmarks-toolbar-display-favorite-websites

What happens instead? Are you able to add anything to the Bookmarks Toolbar?

I just downloaded the most recent version as of the day I downloaded Firefox. None of the answers have solved the bookmark question. I am not able to get bookmarks anywhere. I guess I will switch browsers since Mozilla is not working like it used to before I upgraded to newest version.
