Tried to use other forum Q&A to correct the problem, but cannot get to the point where fix is available to me. The gmail address I have used to register here is (obviously?) not the one exhibiting problems. The one I am trying to regain access to is my mother's Cox.net/Thunderbird email account. She is using Windows 7, 64-bit version, I think.

Thank you, in advance.

re :Getting an error message with some sort of SMTP request for password.

The password would most likely be the same password used to to access and download emails. Enter that password, be careful as it is case sensitive. select the check box to remember the password. click on OK.

the same password is also used to access webmail account using a browser.

This is where Thunderbird stores email passwords:

  • Menu icon > Options > Options > Security > 'Passwords' tab
  • click on 'Saved Passwords'
  • click on 'Show passwords' button

If you get an error, it would be helpful to state exactly what the error says word for word or post an image of the error.
