More on data collection

A while ago I asked a question about data collection (telemetry). It was referenced to what chrome was doing, but what I found disturbed me. When you turn off telemetry, Firefox still collects this data and archives it. The answer was to alter a preference to fix it.

Well now I have done that thanks to contributors cor-el & RobertJ.

So now my expectation is that Firefox does not collect Telemetry data at all. It does not send it to Firefox. It does not store or archive it locally.

Good.

I got a popup with recommendations for extensions features. There is an option to turn both off.

But how does it know what recommendations to make and how often? Well you see Firefox collects data about this. Where I have been and the sorts of data my browser has encountered.

I have specifically told Firefox not to collect Telemetry data. I had to tell Firefox not to archive it.

I have now told Firefox not to make recommendations.

SO.....

HOW DO I STOP FIREFOX COLLECTING THIS DATA IN THE FIRST PLACE?

I shouldn't have to. Shouldn't Firefox stop collecting data either remotely or locally if I turned off these recommendations?

I love Firefox but this sort of back door, sneaking is starting to turn me off.

I expect it from Google or Microsoft, given their absolute lack of integrity, not from Firefox.

It sounds like you just need to disable the Recommend extensions as you browse and Recommend features as you browse options in the Firefox settings. Those get triggered by certain browsing actions. See Recommendations from Firefox for more information.
