Hello all,

I just recently installed Fedora 35 on my PC.

Firefox does not launch at all after clicking on the icon. There's a spinning circle that appears briefly then disappears. Curiously though, there are any running firefox processes in the backgroud, just not a browser. Here is the output:

phansinh 14012 3521 15 18:30 ? 00:00:01 /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox phansinh 14019 1603 0 18:30 ? 00:00:00 /usr/libexec/cgroupify app-gnome-firefox-14012.scope phansinh 14120 14012 0 18:30 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox -contentproc -parentBuildID 20211101141339 -prefsLen 1 -prefMapSize 235228 -appdir /usr/lib64/firefox/browser 14012 true socket phansinh 14147 14012 1 18:30 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox -contentproc -childID 1 -isForBrowser -prefsLen 102 -prefMapSize 235228 -jsInit 278680 -parentBuildID 20211101141339 -appdir /usr/lib64/firefox/browser 14012 true tab phansinh 14182 14012 2 18:30 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox -contentproc -childID 2 -isForBrowser -prefsLen 265 -prefMapSize 235228 -jsInit 278680 -parentBuildID 20211101141339 -appdir /usr/lib64/firefox/browser 14012 true tab phansinh 14204 8362 0 18:30 pts/0 00:00:00 grep --color=auto firefox

I should mention that it also behaves the same way when I try to open it in safe mode.

I also have tried to delete the current profile and create a new one. Still without any luck here.

I am fairly new to Linux but I am pretty sure I got a good hang of the basics. Much appreciate if anyone could guide me through troubleshooting this issue.

Hello,

I have not ran into this problem, have you tried a "killall firefox" before running it?

If so, maybe try reinstalling Firefox, I believe Fedora uses DNF, so "dnf remove firefox" then "dnf install firefox"

more options

If you're still having issues after reinstalling, try running this to see what errors you get in the log file. strace -t -o firefox_debug.txt firefox &

I would suggest running a separate copy of Firefox to compare and test in case the distro version has issues. I'm currently running Nightly, 94 from Distro(openSUSE TW) and another separate copy, ESR-91, and WaterFox.

Hi, thank you for your fast reply. I have tried remove/reinstall firefox but still no luck. There are some curious warnings during the removal process about missing language packs. I am not sure if they are related to the problem at hands

[phansinh@fedora ~]$ sudo dnf remove firefox [sudo] password for phansinh: Dependencies resolved.

I hope those are enough to demonstrate the point. I should also mention that this version of firefox works fine on GNOME classic on the same PC. So I am speculating that this is not a version issue but something else. I have tried running the command that you suggested and viewed the log file. I am not sure how to share the file here. Could you point me in the right direction? Thank you.

I am gonna post a section within the log file that I found notable here to save you time:

WOW! Did you download a separate copy and run it? You may need to ask the folks in the Fedora Forum.

I'd say something against that, but I use Ubuntu, so I won't say anything. Yes I could use something else, no I don't want to
