Since I moved my profile to a new computer I have had two recurring issues that appear to be related.

Issue 1: I use the Tree Style Tabs extension. After about 30 minutes the sidebar hides itself and the Tree Style Tabs item disappears from the View > Sidebar menu. I have to restart Firefox to re-enable the Tree Style Tabs via the menu.

Issue 2: I have 'Open previous session and tabs' enabled in Preferences, and usually this feature works well. However, once the previous issue occurs (my Tree Style Tabs disappears) and I restart Firefox, it always reverts to the same tabs that I had open on the date of migration several weeks ago.

I am on MacOs 12.0.1 and FireFox and extensions are all up-to-date

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why these might be occurring?

@FredMcD thanks for your reply. FWIW, after my last email, but before you 2nd one arrived, I tried one more thing: I reset the permissions on the profile folder and all subfolders and files, and so far the issue hasn't re-occurred :) If it does come back, I'll try your suggestion Cheers Geoff

If you are having issues with an add-on, you should contact its support.

the problem is bigger than the add-on. If you ;like, ignore issue 1, as issue 2 is not add-on related.

The software continues to revert to the state of my profile at the time that I moved the profile to my new laptop.

I have done multiple tests, such as:

  • add a few new tabs and close a few others
  • close FF and re-open
  • new tabs are still there and closed tabs are still gone
  • wait a couple of hours
  • close FF and re-open
  • the new tabs have now gone and the closed tabs have re-apperaed - eg back to the profile state at the time of the move

I have disabled and re-enabled the 'Open previous session and tabs' settings - still doesn't work

I have created a new profile and move the old profile settings into that one, the problem remains. However it now retains the tabs at the time of that new profile's creation.

The add-on issue is mentioned as I think it is happening at the same time. I have disabled the Tree Tabs add-on, but the issue of losing my tabs remains.

You should still contact their support.

You may have corrupt sessionstore [v56] sessionstore.jsonlz4 file(s). Delete all sessionstore* files and the sessionstore-backups folder.

Don't delete the files if you need to rescue any data from them, just move them out of the profile folder to some location where Firefox doesn't look for them. You can try to read out their contents using this tool: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/scrounger.html

Type about:support<enter> in the address box.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

Linux: Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Directory. To its right press the button Open Directory.

Locate the above file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.
