In Firefox, the page generally drops to the end of the page skipping many screens of information.

You can check if it is caused by an extension. I think that I've seen this mentioned before on Mac, but can't remember if it is a specific Mac problem or something else.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
