I can't see my old list of bookmarks (they vanished) and nor can I add new bookmarks, plus my 'back' button wont work, i have to press backspace! WHY?!

I had an awesome list of my bookmarks before and one day all but three vanished. I don't remember updating or installing anything new. Anyway, I tried to import bookmarks from a few days before and then they all disappeared! Now I can't add any new ones at all. not only that but my back and forwards buttons don't work (aka they don't go blue when I go from site to site on the one tab if you understand what I'm saying?) Can anyone help me get my list of bookmarks back at least?

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
