After updating windows in march 2011 (which I usually wait months before doing because there are usually issues) Certain browser games hung and refused to load properly. Including one game at http://uk.games.yahoo.com/d/zgrush.html . No error messages occured. Eventually narrowed it down to a plugin "microsoft .net framework assistant 0.0.0" that just appeared in my firefox browser.

I followed the Mozilla advice for removing the pesky add on (which has no uninstall button) the games played perfectly again.
My main question is why on earth is firefox allowing microsoft to load there add ons?
I switched to firefox for a reason. That was to get away from Internet explorer and the constant issues with microsofts products. I wasted hours messing with the java and flash add ons and noscript prefs before locating that it was microsofts mistakes once again. Please at the very least insist this bloated bumbling greed infested counterproductive corporation includes an uninstall button in future. It reflects badly on firefox and I dont like that at all as your browser is far superior in its capabilities. Thanks in anticipation someone will take note.

Sorry you had that problem with the "microsoft .net framework assistant 0.0.0", but Mozilla can't control what Microsoft installs on their own operating system during a Microsoft update.

One solution, that I use, is to turn off automatic Microsoft updates and once a month I go to Microsoft's Update page and do a manual scan to see what Microsoft thinks my PC needs as far as updates. I de-select stuff that I don't want installed, like dotNet Framework, and then install the other things that I want installed. A little more work to do it that way, but I don't get that garbage that I think is unnecessary for me.

Thanks. i do just that but had no idea the update was going to load anything into my firefox browser. Not sure what is occuring as the problem has returned. have had restore points dissappear and new ones made entitled windows update even though I have windows update switched off. Intensely annoying as it is also grabs more hard drive disc space in doing so. Very strange. Have run malwarebytes, ccleaner and avast. nothing shows up untoward. Only odd thing is the grepefs js fies are missing despite reloading the java stuff and adobes shockwave flash addons.

Thanks again for your input. I have an update re original issue with games freezing including one at http://uk.games.yahoo.com/d/zgrush.html . After running firefox in safe mode the site functioned correctly. I then ran in normal mode and disabled the No script extension and BINGO the site functioned as it should.

Not sure why uninstalling the microsoft gubbins temporarily had the same effect.
