Like so many 100s of other people I regretably upgraded my Firefox to the latest and have had endless problems since. The latest problem is that when trying to watch a video, on youtube for instance, I am told that I don't have the latest Adobe Flash Player - which I do and I know that for a fact because I then launch the same video in Internet Explorer with NO problems. What is going on with this update and why are you not sorting out the problems. Like so many other people have said - why did you have to mess with it, there was nothing wrong !!!! I am on the verge of going back to Internet Explorer

The Flash player used in IE differs from the one in Firefox in that it uses Microsoft's ActiveX technology which isn't supported on Firefox. The danger here is that ActiveX is frequently targeted by hackers to install malware. As you're well aware, it takes Microsoft one month to release a patch if a new vulnerability is discovered.

You can try installing Flash manually on Firefox by doing the following. Both of the following links are direct downloads:

After you download both, close Firefox.

  1. Next, run the uninstaller to remove Flash from your system.

  2. Reboot. This step is necessary to remove the Windows registry entries.

  3. Run the Flash installer. Do not start Firefox.

After the installation completes, go to youtube.com and test it.

But why do I have to go to this trouble when there was 'NOTHING WRONG with either my previous version of Firefox or flashplayer? And how do I know that is going to work when the previous 'help' you gave didn't work? Any one else out there tried it?

Perhaps before you do anything else, you should download the free version of Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free and run a full system scan to eliminate malware as the culprit as is often the case.

If you want to revert to the previous secure version of Firefox, do the following.

Go to Download Firefox v3.6.17 and download it to the desktop.

Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).

Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.

Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

After you complete the installation, go to the Plugins Check page and update those where necessary.

at last everything works again !!!! I've got rid of the ridiculous upgrade and now have flash player, back buttons, google toolbar etc etc all working perfectly well, as they were before I made the mistake of upgrading to Firefox 4. So if anyone else is thinking of it, DON'T, just stick with vs 3.6.17. And Firefox - next time you think you can improve your product - think again and TEST IT 1st !!!!!

@ KECD, I'd advise you not to install a previous version of Flash because of the security issues documented here: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-12.html

If you're having problems with Flash, please start a new thread and we'll do our best to resolve the problem for you.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the help. I downloaded the previous version of Firefox and that cured the problem. Reinstalling the Flash player did not help with the latest version. Thanks again, Slim2111
