Question This version of Firefox I just downloaded today, 10 Aug 2011, says it is not compatible with my laptop, a Mac OS X version 10.4.11 - how can I make it work, as I need Firefox to help with my new job? Is there an earlier form of Firefox that will be compatible with my computer? Thanks.

As of Firefox 4.0 and newer, both OSX 10.5+ and a Intel Mac is required.
The last version to work on OSX 10.4.x is the Firefox 3.6.* where current version is at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You can get the third-party tenfourfox builds for OS X 10.4.x or OS X 10.5.x at http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/
Your best bet is the Firefox 5.0 builds. The 4.0.2/4.0.3 versions are not based on builds from Mozilla as last was 4.0.1 and the 6.0b1 test build is old as 6.0b5 is current.
Thank you very much for this speedy response - much appreciated! I will attempt to translate your tecchie language (sorry - I am a neanderthal!) and try to download an appropriate version. Hope it works!!!
