I can't get bookmarks to save properly. The Yellow star lights up, but nothing is saved anywhere else. Can't view saved bookmarks at all. How do I fix this in 9.0.1?
I can't get bookmarks to save properly... The yellow star lights up (even when I return to the site), but NOTHING shows when I try to view all bookmarks. NOTHING shows on the bookmarks toolbar either. The back-up files seem to be empty. I've tried restarting with all add-ons disabled in safe mode and it still wouldn't save a bookmark properly.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

When you click the yellow star, a bookmark usually is added to the "Unsorted Bookmarks" list at the very bottom of the Bookmarks menu or Bookmarks sidebar.
To choose a more useful destination, you can click the star again and select another destination.
(I don't know whether you can change the default behavior of the star so that your bookmarks are always added to the main list. I don't see such an option listed here: How do I use bookmarks? | How to | Firefox Help)
Edit: To add a page to the Bookmarks Toolbar, you can drag and drop the site's favicon (to the left of the URL) onto the Bookmarks Toolbar.

Thanks for the reply. My problem seems to be different. No matter how I bookmark a page, it never ends up in my list of bookmarks. In fact, since installing Firefox, I have zero bookmarks saved. The "Library" screen comes up completely blank every time I open "Show all bookmarks" or "Unsorted bookmarks". In fact, the same Library screen comes up completely blank when I try to view "Show all History". I'm beginning to suspect a problem with my installation....I tried to import bookmarks from IE...perhaps that goofed something up.
Perhaps there is a permissions issue when Firefox tries to update your Places file (a database stored in your personal profile). The Places file stores both bookmarks and history.
I'm not very conversant with Vista file permission issues, but a search in past threads here might turn up some suggestions.

Thanks for the help, jscher2000 and cor-el. I deleted the Places file and re-started... everything is working perfectly now.
