I have searched support for instructions on removing ALL default search engines. I used the methods that tell how to get rid of unwanted search engines, but when only one is left to remove, the "remove, move up, move down" choices are greyed out. I went to my profile using the help instructions, but could not find anything about search engines in those folders. I have an added-on search engine that I want to use, and I want to remove the the defaults that appear in the upper right area.

They should be removed from the Manage Search Engines window if you click the remove button, but you can't remove the last one, because Firefox wants at least one search engine.
I don't know if it helps if you install a custom search engine.
You can edit the plugin file in the searchplugins folder and set the search location (template) to an empty string.

If you want to remove them indefinitely then you can remove them from the searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\), but that may cause problems with an update.
