When Firefox updates, it changes my settings for managing pdfs. How do I stop this repeated change?
I have set my preference in FF to ask me each time I deal with a PDF. I want it to ask me. Each time FF updates, it loses this setting and defaults to downloading the PDF. Usually, I just want to see the document, not download it. So I reset it to ask me what I want to do. Two days later, it appears FF has updated as I have to reset this as, again, it wants to download the next PDF. How do I get FF to stop changing this setting?
I am on a Mac running OSX and The most current FF each time this happens. Currently, just today, I am running OS 10.8.4 and FF 22.0

Delete the mimetypes.rdf file in the profile folder.

You should also change the pdf viewer to Adobe Reader.
I change it and then, each time FF updates, it changes the preference. The issue is that FF seams to be overwriting the set up we users create each time it updates.
can you tell me what I am deleting? I am fairly computer savvy and I know that if I delete something I cannot get back, without knowing what it is and how it interests with the topic I'm requesting help for, I might not be able to get it back and need MORE help ;-)
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

You are not deleting anything, you are changing the defualt app for pdfs (aka disabling the one you have now). Refer to

In your first post you said to delete the mime file, so that was what I was hoping to better understand, implication-wise.
I did look at the how to change the pdf viewer and I've done that. The issues is that when I do that, the next time FF updates, it changes the selection and sets it to save as. I am tired of having to go reset it once a week, which is how often it seems that FF is updating or doing something to the browser.
In that case, delete the mimetypes.rdf file, it will only reset the actions in the "Applications" window
I've just done that and will let you know how it works as the issue usually bubbles up once a week or so.
thank you for your help. Michelle
