How to turn down Alerts volume in FF when using webmail without turning down system volume (Mac)?
I'm using Mac OS 10.6.8. When I access my webmail via Firefox, I get a loud chirp whenever I send or receive a new email. I contacted my ISP (Optimum) and they said Firefox tells my computer to make the sound. They say they have no control over it. I tried turning down the alerts volume in my System Sound prefs, but it didn't affect FF sound volume.
How can I lower or turn off the volume in FF when using webmail without turning down system volume?

thank you!!! Found the 'sound off' button in their preferences. Fixed. (It was so freakin' loud!)
I, in turn, chatted with Optimum's Customer Service and told them they need to tell their supervisor to better educate their own customer service, instead of passing the buck. We'll see.

Firefox does not spontaneously make sounds when you receive a new email! Maybe you can point them toward their own help article:
Optimum Online Email includes the most popular functions ... and several additional features to simplify and greatly enhance the customer experience: ... Optional sound effects when sending or receiving mail.

If it's optional, there must be a way to turn it off completely, perhaps in mail preferences.
But to return to your original question, I don't know of a way to manage volume in Firefox independently of system volume if no controls are displayed (e.g., Quicktime, Flash, or other plugin that displays a volume control).
