I'm at a loss as to what's going on here. When I try to stream a .MP3 stream, I get a new Tab with what looks like a built in player (long and narrow, Play/Stop, Progress, Volume) in an otherwise blank Tab.

Some details: FF 26.0 Audio player, XMPlay Options > Applications > MP3 Format > Always Ask (Originally set to XMPlay and recognized it but didn't help. Doesn't even ask)

If I stream via .PLS or .M3U no problem. Problem only occurs with a direct .MP3 stream.

Note; This is a fresh install of FF. I was running FF Portable and switched to the normal FF. I moved my Profile from the Portable, renamed it to the new Default (Renamed the old Default to NOT*******) everything else works fine. Bookmarks, Extensions, etc.

I'm currently Pinning that streaming tab as an App. aand parkng it in a corner, out of the way. But, I normally have enough of a loaad on FF, I'd like to get rid of this extra thing.

Thanks

Ed

On Windows XP you can set the media.directshow.enabled pref to false on the about:config page.

(Windows Media Foundation applies to Vista and later Windows versions)

When you left-click direct links to certain file types like MP3, they will open in Firefox's built-in player, regardless of your settings under Options - Applications. This is a known issue that will presumably be fixed at some point in the future.

You can either

  • Right-click the link and choose Save Link As, then click the Download button on the toolbar and click the downloaded file to open it in the default application.
  • Set media.windows-media-foundation.play-stand-alone to false in about:config.

To you and Gingerbread,

I am very sorry for thins late reply. Thunderbird put them in the Junk folder and it got lost with the rest of the junk. I just read them today.

Thanks a lot.

Ed

BTW: Thunderbird has been told Support is not junk.
