This occurs about 20%-30% of the times I open Firefox or Thunderbird: When I go to launch the program, more than one instance of the browser (or Thunderbird) will open up, and so I'll end up needing to close one before I start browsing. I access the programs through shortcuts on my Quick Launch bar on my Windows 7 system. Any ideas why it would do this?

Thanks.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the <Alt> or <F10> key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

See if there is still a problem.

Thanks for the feedback, both of you...I decided to delete the shortcuts and pin FF and TB to the Taskbar and open the programs from there.. So far it's working..will report back if I see any problem.

Thanks.

Let's try an experiment. Pick one of the shortcuts you are having trouble with. Manually, go to that web page. Delete the old shortcut, and make a new one. Close the browser, and try the new shortcut. If this works, do the same with all the others. You might also select the old shortcut, and check it's properties first.
