When I create a bookmark on the homescreen, it does not appear. When I try a second time, Firefox tells me that this bookmark already exists on the homescreen, although it is not shown. This way I must have many bookmarks on my homescreen which are not visible but somewhere registered as being there. Uninstalling Firefox and re-installing latest version (31) did not solve anything - invisible homescreen bookmarks seem to be still there. Firefox 31 on Android 4.4.2 Questions: 1. How can I cleanup/delete these invisible bookmarks that Firefox sees as being there? 2. How can I create homescreen bookmarks that do appear in the first place?

To delete all bookmarks see: Delete All Bookmarks. Usually tapping the menu button and tapping the star should create a bookmark. I'm not totally sure why it's not showing up. Something that also often solves problems is clearing your browsers cache and history, follow the instructions here to do that.

I know this answer is probably incomplete, but I hope this will help us move one step closer in solving the problem.

Thank you for your answer; unfortunately this didn't solve the issue. What I am refering to are the shortcuts on the homescreen, not the bookmarks within the firefox application. Once placed on the homescreen, firefox doesn't see them as bookmarks, so deleting from within firefox doesn't work. But: although these shortcuts are not shown on the homescreen, firefox still has the information somewhere and displays an erromessage saying it already exists when I try a second time. Deleting firefox data & cache doesn't delete this information either.

Hi Nostromo:

It's unclear to me what your steps to reproduce the problem are.

Please tell us the exact set of steps you followed including the exact site you are bookmarking so we can help solve your problem

I tried the following steps and they worked fine:

  1. pinned a site e.g. rolandgoodbits.tumblr.com to the home screen (documentation: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-awesome-screen-search-web-bookmarks-and-more )
  2. added a bookmark to that site rolandgoodbits.tumblr.com
  3. removed the bookmark for rolandgoodbits.tumblr.com
  4. unpinned rolandgoodbits.tumblr.com from the homescreen
  5. re-added the bookmark for rolandgoodbits.tumblr.com

Cheers!

Hello Roland,

exact steps are: 1. I go on any website (tried many) 2. long touch address field

-- two choices are offered (my system is German):
   ---- "Adresse kopieren" (copy address)
---- "Zu Startbildschim hinzufügen" (add to homescreen)

3. select 2nd entry 4. find nothing on the home screen

When I do the exact same steps a second time on the same page, a little box appears, telling me that the entry is already on my homescreen.

BTW: The same procedure works fine on my phone running on Android 4.2.2; but it does not work on my tablet running Android 4.4.2.

I must have quite some entries like this hanging around, not being able to delete because they are not there; but there must be some data somewhere, otherwise I wouldn't get the error when trying a second time. I hate knowing I have a memory leak somewhere and would like to get rid of these shortcuts somehow. Moreover it would be great if I could use links to websites on the homescreen somehow with Firefox.

Thanks, Nostromo
