This is a new TB install, POP, I have 6 accounts feeding into the local folders In box. Gets new messages fine manually. In Server Settings I have checked "Check for new messages at startup" and "Check for new messages every 10 mins". Clicking the "Advanced" button I have selected "in box for different account" - "Local Folders" and "Include this server when getting new mail".

What do I need to do? Any help appreciated. thanks

Ron

That sounds like it should work.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:

  • Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
  • Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

Hi Matt, Thanks for the reply.

I sent myself a message and then disabled add-ons. No joy on restart or after waiting more than 10mins. I then clicked on "Get Messages" and the test message came thru fine.

This is a new install TB 31.3 on an old XP PC. I have not added any add-ons to my knowledge.

Do I need to restart XP in safe mode (with networking)? Given that sending and "Get Messages" seem to be working ok?

I do get a tone (error?) when TB starts and brief glimpse of a message on the bottom of the TB window. Nothing like that after 10mins.

If you are out of ideas, I will wait to see if this is fixed when I move TB to my new Win7 PC.

Thanks again, Ron
