Using Thunderbird on my BTinternet account I get repeated requests from BT to reset my password, how do I avoid this?
After several months without problems I now have a nearly daily problem that the password for my BT account is not accepted by BT. I can go through BT-yahoo and use the procedure to change password, but this is highly irritating, and I have to do it on all devices used to access my email. In addition the reset procedure does not appear to be secure.

The password is for your email account. The password is administered with your email provider. These are concerns you need to address with the provider.
BT claims that it is an issue caused by Mozilla. In the past I used Winmail and never had this problem. My wife is using Winmail on the same account and does not have this problem.
What firewall do you use? Is it set to allow Thunderbird to pass throu? That a fairly common problem with certain firewalls after updating TB, so test that first.

Has nothing to do with Thunderbird. Your email password is administered with your provider. How can they blame this on Thunderbird?

Thunderbird provides the server with the password that you have saved or manually entered. When it is "not accepted" by your provider, does it work when you use the providers web mail account? If so, then you have another issue and you are wasting time changing passwords.
Incorrect server settings or a flaky mail server at your provider can cause this problem. It is not like your provider only has one server for all its customers. Maybe you get a bad one every now and then.
I am using the windows firewall, and I have now set it to allow Thunderbird through. So far so good, but since the problem is intermittent it will be some time before I know for sure whether this has solved the problem.
