Using latest versions of W10, FireFox, VIPRE Internet Security 2016. All recently updated.

I'm a member of Ancestry.com. In the past I uploaded my family tree along with images associated with various individuals in the tree. I dropped my subscription some time in the past but re-subscribed lately. Since "reupping" I have not been able to access any of the images in FireFox. I go to an individual click the "Gallery" button and all images associated with the individual should appear (they are stored on Ancestry.com's server). Instead of images I get the message: "We're sorry, this gallery is temporarily unavailable. You can try reloading the page in your browser, or come back later."

I contacted Ancestry and they are able to access the images on their computers. Ancestry.com also functions properly if I us MS Edge on the same computer.

Because I can access the images on the same computer with Edge but not FireFox I can't help but believe it is something to do with FireFox. There have been numerous new versions of FireFox since I last used Ancestry.com, it the past FireFox and Ancestry worked fine but not now.

I have gone to Tools-Options-Advance and cleared the cache. I also tried increasing the size of the cache to no avail.

Help!

Reload the webpage while bypassing the cache using one of the following steps:

  • Hold down the Shift key and click the Reload FxReloadButton button in the navigation toolbar.

OR

  • Press Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows and Linux)
  • Press Command + Shift + R (Mac)

Let us know if this solves the issues you are having.

Tried the shift/reload but had no effect.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, cache, and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

Firefox 42+ has a Tracking Protection feature that is enabled by default in Private Browsing mode. When you are in private browsing mode then Firefox can show a shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar that some content is affected.

You can disable this feature in "Options/Preferences > Privacy" or via the about:privatebrowsing page that get when you open a New Private Window.

  • Options/Preferences > Privacy: "Use Tracking Protection in Private Windows"

No help at all. After going to the "Support Community" for ancestry.com it appears I am not alone here. Several are finding that the website works perfect in either MS Edge or IE but not in Firefox. Some are finding most of the site working fine but just one or two items do not work. Most common is the DNA link on ancestry and the gallery.

I have noticed that on the left side of the address bar when clicking on the symbol there it says that "Connection is not secure".

Could this be why Firefox is giving users problems on this website?

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page (i.e. no authentication or signing on required)?

The only link I could give you is to www.ancestry.com. However, this would not help with the situation. In order to get to the a place where you could investigate the situation you would have to sign in to an account.

I could give you a link to the page in question but without first signing in at the home page it would simply take you to a page that wants you to subscribe to the service.

This seems that your database is corrupted or someone hijacked. You do one thing, try downloading through terminals from Linux OS. If you again get the same error try to scrap whole gallery which you uploaded either by using BeutifulSoup or by Selenium

It is not my database. It is part of a tree I control on Ancestry.com but others can view and download the information there--including images. I know the database is not corrupt as Ancestry support is able to log into my account and view the images. Plus if I use MS Edge or IE I can view the images.

I am not alone here. While trying to find an answer through Ancestry's Community Support I quickly became aware that others were have the same problems and no answers were being found. All are able to us MS browsers (or Chrome for that matter) to resolve the problem but FireFox just will not work. Some were able to click the Reload button multiple times to make it work but I cannot.

Before I let my subscription expire a few years ago FireFox and Ancestry worked fine together. Since then FireFox has updated mutlple times and Ancestry has had a complete make over. Now after renewing my subscription they don't seem to like each other. Ancestry support as said that they have tested FF, Chrome, and IE for compatibility and have "approved" them but not Edge.

If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains. You can tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions".

Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images

  • Select the first image and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
  • If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain.

Check permissions.default.image on the about:config page to make sure it is default (1).

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions do not block content. There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

I checked the page info as suggested and nothing was blocked. There is nothing listed in the Media Preview window except Ancestry.com's logo.

Permissions are set to 1 on the about:config page.

I do run AdBlock but have it disabled trying to resolve this issue.

One other thing before I go. I have two desktop computers and one laptop. I have one desktop and the laptop at my winter home in FL (which I am using now), both this desktop and my laptop have been upgraded to Windows 10 and both have the same problem. Both of these computers are a few years old.

The other desktop at my home, which I purchased last summer, is running Windows 7. I will be home in two weeks and am interested to find out if I will have the same problem on that computer--which runs Windows 7.

Any thoughts on this?
