Hello. After an update for Firefox was installed, it never works. All I get is a blank page and it won't go to any of my bookmarks or addresses that I enter and all of my add ons are gone and the settings page won't open.

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that works.

  • Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
  • Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I tried refreshing Firefox and that worked, but I still had the same problem after I tried to start it normally. I tried starting Firefox in safe mode, that worked, but the same thing happened when I tried to start it normally after starting it in safe mode. I attached a photo of what Firefox looks like when I start it normally.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via *"3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)

  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
