I have both Earlybird and the current version of Thunderbird installed, 38.7.2.

If I uninstall Earlybird, what happens to my current version?

Is it best to use the Windows uninstaller or third party software?

Thanks...

What have you done in respect of your Thunderbird profile to support two separate installations?

Nothing.

I just downloaded it, that's all.

Then uninstalling it will also not have any effect.

I hope so...

Thanks.

I did forget that add-ons do not automatically downgrade, so you may have to manually remove and re install them. But you will already be seeing this ion the regular version. It will not just happen when you get rid of earlybird.

I have no idea what that means.

Downgrade from what? Please explain.

Thanks.

If you ran Earlybird with any add-ons, it may have found later versions compatible with itself, and these add-ons may not be compatible with the current release version. But since you haven't done anything specific to provide separate profiles for your two installations of Thunderbird, I don't think you'll have any problems.

However, if Thunderbird does complain about an add-on being incompatible, uninstall the add-on and re-install it to get the appropriate version. This tends to be required for the Lightning calendar add-on in particular.

I have no idea what versions it installed - I only have 2 addons, Lightening and Import/Export Tools, it did install without any issues, a lot cleaner than the current release problems.

I have had issues with installing/updating Lightening for a long time - it seems to be a common refrain from users on Mozillazine - the developers seem to make things as difficult as possible without any explanations.

We were directed to a link on this forum, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/installing-lightning-thunderbird, to have current questions answered, but as with everything Mozilla does, the link no longer works.

The issues with Lightening are making me rethink Thunderbird, and I have used it since the original beta, a decade now. My calendar is too important to me.

My current release version, 38.7.2, has Lightening 4.0.5.2. They seem to work OK together, but it took some time to accomplish that.

I have so many issues with Thunderbird these days, not sure what I'm going to do.

Another one popped up since 38.XX, T'Bird decides to turn off threads in random emails. Makes me really irritated, nobody knows why.

That's another matter.

Thanks, though.
