Can a hyperlink in an email be opened in a new tab of an existing/ open Firefox Private Window rather than opening a new window that is not a Private Window?

Recently, Firefox opens a new window when I open a link within an email. I use use Thunderbird for email. This happens when the existing window is a Private Window. It does not happen when the existing window is in "regular" mode. I'd prefer to have a new tab open in the existing Private window. I've tried different settings in both Firefox and Thunderbird without success. Thanks for the help.

This is a Firefox issue, not a Thunderbird issue, so you put in the wrong forum, but no worries, I can see why you though it was Thunderbird, after all that was where you clicked the link.

In Firefox click on 'Menu icon' and select 'Options' Under 'General' 'Tabs' section there should be an option to select how Firefox opens.

Thank you for the suggestion but it didn't work. I believe it has something to do with being in a private window in Firefox. You can't open a new tab from an email hyperlink into an open private window. It is a new problem and wasn't an issue until recently.

I have requested that this be moved to the Firefox forum.

Hi Airmail. I just found the issue addressed in the Firefox Forum and have to think through the suggested options for the fix. It's unclear to me if it's a Firefox issue or a Windows issue. I suspect something changed in an update of one or the other. Thank you!
